MNEMBA ISLAND

Mnemba Island, 2 miles (3. 2km) to the north-east of the island of Zanzibar (Unguja), is surrounded by a vast coral reef measuring several miles in diameter. Listed as a marine reserve, it is the most popular snorkeling spot in Zanzibar. Moorish idols, blue tang and clownfish are easy to see in a few feet of water, above a colourful, well-preserved reef. The underwater surrounding around Mnemba Island has actually been appointed to be one of East Africas best place for diving and snorkeling. The sight you meet when you enter this marine world is amazing and you get the feeling that you are facing a big aquarium. The reefs in Mnemba have been declared as Marine Conservation area in order to protect its nature resources. It is undoubtedly the most popular place for snorkeling in Zanzibar and a must do during your staying here. It is often called The Tropical Fish Capital since the place is well known for its large variety of different types of fish. Sting rays, Lion fish, Frog fish, Leaf fish and Zebra fish are just five of the over 350 different species that has been recorded around Mnemba Island.
